It’s almost impossible to have a conversation these days about technology without generative AI or Large Language Models (LLMs) coming into question, even in the legal industry. This session is intended to offer a foundational understanding of Generative AI that will be relevant for a legal professional and share insights on how firms can adopt new technology like LLMs into their legal and e-discovery practice.

Overcoming Algorithmic Bias to Power the Pursuit of Justice

Does causing harm require intentionality? Recklessness? Sentience? While AI offers great promise across industries and communities, it’s far from perfect. The bias present in AI-enabled tools has a real-life outcome that is directly influenced by technology. There are circumstances where bias can cause minimal harm — you’ll probably survive if Netflix insists you rewatch "The Great British Bake Off.” But other applications, including those in the legal realm, algorithmic bias could have devastating consequences. During this session, we’ll discuss how fit-for-purpose AI tools can impact an investigation, case strategy and alternative use cases.
